Headlining her first show in years, Missy Elliott is set to play her only performance scheduled for 2017 in July at the FYF Fest in Los Angles. Others headlining the show are Solange, Björk, A Tribe Called Quest, and Nine Inch Nails.
Happening at Los Angeles’ Exposition Park starting July 21st and ending July 23rd, there are plenty of other “big wigs” playing center stage at FYF Fest. With artists such as Run the Jewels, MGMT, Iggy Pop, Perfume Genius, Mitski, Cap’n Jazz, and plenty of others, the festival is looking to be a great hit!
However, Elliot performing at the festival is something of significance. The rap star has not performed in a concert in the United Stated since 2008. She fell from the music scene for some time after learning that she had Grave’s disease. She went public about her issue in 2011.
Missy has been playing international concerts and festivals since her diagnosis, but she made her big return to the public stage back in 2015 when Katy Perry brought her out as her special guest during her halftime performance. Missy performed a melody of her songs “Get Ur Freak On,” “Lose Control,” and “Work It.”
The huge televised comeback put Missy back on the map as her album and single sales began to shoot back up. After the show, it was obvious that Missy was back. She started releasing new songs. She was also on the remix of Jack Ü’s “Take Ü There” and was on the collaboration she did with Pharell on “WTF (Where They From).” This was her first single solo since she came out with “Shake Your Pom Pom” back in 2008. At the beginning of the year, she released a song titled, “I’m Better.”
Missy has been in the studio working with her old friend, Timbaland. They are working on her seventh studio album and first LP since she released “The Cookbook” back in 2005.
Back in 2015, talks were circulating that the RnB swooner, Frank Ocean, would be headlining FYF Fest. However, Ocean pulled out of the festival last minute. Since they still had a show to play, they had to scramble looking for a replacement. Luckily, no other than Kanye West was there and available to replace him.
