According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force of Nassau, one person has died, and another nine people were injured after their small tour boat exploded Saturday, June 30th.
The fire from the explosion allowed for thick smoke to fill the sky in Barrterre, Exuma. The district of Exuma makes up hundreds of small islands around the capital of Nassau.
According to Chanta Knowles, a spokesperson for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the boat was carrying ten people from the U.S. and two local Bahamians. They were going for a boat ride at around nine o’clock Saturday morning. Police officials did not specify the countries of those who were injured or died during the explosion of the craft.
Reports from the U.S. Coast Guard say that after sustaining their injuries, instead of returning to the islands, four people were taken to St. Petersburg, Florida. They are receiving treatment for their wounds at Bayfront Health. However, the other five had to ride an airlift to Princess Margaret Hospital located in Nassau.
Boat Explosion Leads To One Death and Nine Injuries
Officials at Bayfront were only able to confirm having one patient in their Hospital. Their reps confirm that around 8 p.m on Saturday, a 48-year-old man came to them after suffering from an ankle fracture.
As of now, there is no report as to what the cause of the explosion. Police in the area are investigating the situation.
Be that as it may, there is footage make rounds online of the wreckage from the deadly explosion. People riding on a neighboring craft came to the rescue for one person remaining on the ship. They were able to jump in the water and save them from the wreckage.
Also in the video, you can see and hear people on the boat for the captain to move their boat away from the wrecked boat. They were afraid of another explosion occurring.
