Cartel In Mexico Takes Over

Those living in Mexico, more so south of the Rio Grande, are going through a war with the cartel. This past Thursday, there was a battle in the city of Culiacan between government officials and the drug cartel. The military was able to capture two of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s sons. Ivan, the older son, was freed by those on his side. His men were able to overpower the government, securing his freedom. As an effort to free his younger brother Oviedo, Ivan launched a city-wide takeover.

Footage of the incident shows that people were burning vehicles, and shooters were blocking roads. There were dead bodies lying in the streets as well as residents fleeing from gunfire.

Henchmen were walking around with military-grade weapons as well as custom-built armored vehicles. There those in the cartel have been launching several attacks on Mexican security forces. They’ve been holding soldiers as hostages, also kidnapping their family members. With all of the destruction and commotion going on, several prisoners have escaped.

The Drug Cartel In Mexico Was Able To Take Over a Major State In The Country

Armed with military-grade weapons and driving custom-built armored vehicles, cartel henchmen targeted security forces throughout Culiacan, launching more than one dozen separate attacks on Mexican security forces. They captured and held hostage eight soldiers, then kidnapped their families. Amid the fighting, an unknown number of inmates escaped from a nearby prison. At least eight people were killed, and more than a dozen were injured.

The battle between the government and the cartel went on for eight hours. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador gave the direct order for his men to release their prisoner and surrender. Later, Lopez Obrador was saying in a statement that there were too many people at risk.

The battle of Culiacan shows precisely where the country stands at the moment, and it is not pretty. Hopefully, the government will be able to stop the cartel from wreaking havoc on the land eventually.
